Fresh Tattoo Care & Healing Manual
Essential steps for washing, moisturizing, and protecting your fresh tattoo from bandage removal through full healing.

Step-by-Step Care Routine
Day 1: Bandage Removal & First Wash
Keep your protective bandage on for 3–5 hours (or up to 3 days if using second-skin film). Gently remove under warm running water. Clean thoroughly using lukewarm water and fragrance-free soap until all plasma and excess ink are washed away. Pat dry with a fresh paper towel.
Days 2 to 5: Washing & Thin Moisture
Wash gently 2–3 times daily. Apply an ultra-thin layer of specialty tattoo ointment or fragrance-free moisturizer. If the skin looks shiny or suffocated, you have applied too much product — blot the excess off with a paper towel.
Days 6 to 14: Peeling & Itching Phase
Your tattoo will begin to flake like a mild sunburn. Do NOT pick, scratch, or peel the skin. Switch to a light, fragrance-free lotion and gently pat (never scratch) the area if itching occurs.
Weeks 3 to 4: Final Settling
The surface layer finishes healing, though the deeper dermis is still repairing underneath. Colors may look slightly cloudy as new skin cells finish regenerating — this clears up on its own within a few more weeks.
Long-Term Maintenance
Once fully healed, keep the area moisturized and apply SPF 50+ sunscreen every time it's exposed to sunlight. Consistent sun protection is the single biggest factor in how vivid your tattoo stays over the years.
What TO Do
- Wash hands thoroughly with soap before touching your tattoo.
- Use clean, disposable paper towels to pat the tattoo dry (avoid cloth towels).
- Wear clean, loose-fitting cotton clothes over the tattoo.
- Apply SPF 50+ sunscreen ONLY after the tattoo is fully healed.
- Sleep on clean bedding and change pillowcases/sheets more frequently during healing.
What NOT To Do
- Do NOT submerge in water (baths, pools, oceans, hot tubs) for 3 weeks.
- Do NOT pick, scratch, or peel flaking skin or scabs.
- Do NOT apply Vaseline, Neosporin, or heavy petroleum jelly.
- Do NOT expose the fresh tattoo to direct sunlight.
- Do NOT exercise heavily or over-sweat the area for the first week.
Recommended Care Products
